The Vamps - Meet The Vamps | Album Review

Keep in mind I wrote most of these opinions upon first listen in the middle of the night, but let's go

  1. Wild Heart
Solid move to start the album off with a single. I like this one and I think I've mentioned it before so I won't go on.
  2. Last Night
Another single, keeps the energy going from the first track. It's fun, young people music.
  3. Somebody To You
My notes on this one are extremely terrible, I've written, "Yes! Cute! Common topic. The LAUGH!"
  4. Can We Dance
I think this was their first original song to be released into the world - we know it, we love it.
  5. Girls On TV
Reminds me a bit of Walks Like Rhianna by The Wanted (The Vamps covered that a while back) even though it's not really? Another song about not needing a supermodel girlfriend. It's wicked.
  6. Risk It All
A bit breathy, a lot like Cardinals or Coldplay on this track. Shows variation in their style of music by slowing it down a bit.
  7. Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart)
Actually not a cover, but the chorus of the Simon & Garfunkel song is used. I like how they tied in the chorus as if they're aware it's another song, like they're quoting it.
  8. Another World
Another slower, more emotional one that is basically The One That Got Away with the words moved around.
  9. Move My Way
A happier, Sunday morning song for summer or a nice, Spring day. I drew a smiley face beside this one.
  10. Shout About It
Possible use of an xylophone is this sweet, slower one. Some of the words made me think of Sanctuary by Paradise Fears.
  11. High Hopes
It's nearly acoustic but there's this good beat and some group vocals. A song about looking forward to a future with someone. The end is cool.
  12. She Was The One
RE: Another World. A more intense, rugged song.
  13. Dangerous
The intro sounds familiar, and this is somewhat of a I Knew You Were Trouble type of song. I can picture it being played in arenas someday.
  14. Lovestruck
The accent is audible, this one sounds a bit spacey, which matches the lyrics quite well - something you'd listen to at the end of a long day. It prepares the album for an end.
  15. Smile
This one comes in with a punch and ties the whole album together to finish it off. It sounds like a last song, very upbeat. It also does a little All Time Low jab with, "I'll take your picture, cause I'm coming with ya" and that just kills me.
  16. On The Floor (Deluxe Edition Only)
There may or may not be a ukulele used in this song. It's very relationship-y and chilled out. You can probably guess what it's about.
  17. Golden (Deluxe Edition Only)
A bit of groove in this one, and the title isn't obvious. Much like some of their singles, this one could do well on radio.
  18. Fall (Deluxe Edition Only)
A bit like Lovestruck, but not exactly.
Final thoughts: I really like it. There are a few themes present, almost as if the whole album was written about the same girl and Smile especially connects it all together. They seem to have established their own style and that's impressive for a first album. They know what kind of music they wanna make.
They sound a lot like bit and pieces of all my favourite bands, and that could be why I like them so much. I could go on but I'll mention specifically Rixton, 5 Seconds Of Summer, One Direction, Coldplay, Little Sea, Artist VS Poet, Cardinals, and McFly.
