Christmas Songs

Why are they so damn popular?

Lately it has occurred to me that this 1 day celebration gets so much more attention and hype than any other. Why? Seriously, why? In my town at least, certain radio stations play strictly Christmas music for most of November and all of December. It gets repetitive, obviously but not as quickly as a Halloween station would, or another religious holiday like Easter. What makes Christmas so special that so many people choose to write songs about it, cover songs people have written about it, release an entire album of themed songs? It boggles me. Some songs are quite general observations of the winter season which is fine but no other season (maybe summer) gets this. I think the best is when people talk about "it only comes once a year" well, yeah. So does every other holiday. You don't hear me crooning about how we should cherish Library Snapshot Day (a real thing, April 2nd, I just googled "dumb holidays" for the sake of this post) because it comes and goes so fast!
People start decorating for Christmas as soon as it's socially acceptable, which most times means the first day of November.
This hasn't really been about music but I do get sick of the Christmas songs very fast, faster than most of my friends. I just don't get very festive, I'm no fun. I get annoyed by the "classics" so I don't care for those, or the vast amount of remakes. I like originals, sometimes. Michael Buble and Justin Bieber have some pretty good ones, but I'm not itching to listen to it in June or anything. Don't get me started on Santa Baby because that's a whole 'nother can of worms.
In other news, I did make a Christmas playlist because I'm a hypocrite.
