This Week In Music: 03/10/13

So I've had a great time this past week finding a lot of new artists and catching up on new releases! For me it seems to come in waves, one week I'll be overwhelmed with new stuff and others will be slow, giving me time to digest what I've just got. Let's get into it!

  • Jack Johnson - From Here To Now To You
His music always makes me a happy camper. I've never been an avid fan but I saw that this album came out and I gave it a listen, I was pleased. It's good for doing homework or sitting around on a lazy day. He just has a soothing effect to his voice, add a guitar and you've really got something sweet there.
Must hear: I've Got You, Washing Dishes, Shot Reverse Shot
Sounds like: John Mayer, Cody Simpson
  • Miley Cyrus - Bangerz
I don't hate it, but I can't see myself listening to it very often if at all after my first play. She's grown and evolved and I love a lot of her old stuff but this is not my cup of tea. The slow, ballad-y songs are alright because you can really feel her pain but I'll leave the rest. I'm sure you're curious so yeah, you should hear it for yourself.
  • Panic! At The Disco - Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die!
I mean, everyone knows I Write Sins Not Tragedies, right? This band still makes music and you know what? They're killing it. Brendan Urie has a voice similar to Patrick Stump and this band has such a cool sound. I like the entire album. iTunes has labelled it "rock" so that's a thing.
Must hear: Nicotine, Miss Jackson, Collar Full
Sounds like: Fall Out Boy, ???
  • Lauren Aquilina - Fools
This is an older release but I found it while browsing the last.fm page for artists similar to Lucy Spraggan. She has such a pretty voice and the lyrics are very near and dear to my heart. She tells great stories and her music suits this phase I've been going through with chillout music and such. Good stuff.
    Must hear: Fools, King
Sounds like: Lucy Spraggan, Gabrielle Aplin
  • CHVRCHES - Recover (Single)
This was the free song of the week on iTunes and I've really been keeping up with those as of late, now finding this. They recently released an album which I'll be sure to make time for in the coming week but for now I'll just be listening to this one, which I like. It's a cool electronic/dance/indie bit with a female vocalist, I can see myself singing along to this while I'm home alone.
In related news, I got tickets to see Demi Lovato next March and that will be a lot of fun!!!
