Week In Review(s)

I hope you enjoy my effort at a clever title. Here's my thoughts on the bands I saw recently.

American Authors, Cardinals
Going into this, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had never seen the band and had no idea what kind of fans they had, how many people would be there et cetera. It was at the Mod Club and the show wasn't too packed but it was a ton of fun. I fell in love with the opener and American Authors was fabulous live. They don't have many songs so luckily I got to hear all my favourites. We got to speak to a few members after the show and they were pretty cool guys, very sweet. Overall great show, would see either band again.

The Maine, Nick Santino
On the opposite side of the spectrum, I'd seen both of these acts before the gig on Sunday. But, it was an acoustic show so it was something new. Nick was great as always even if I felt weird being one of the only guests singing along to each of his songs. The Maine was fantastic. I loved the chill vibe they brought and how they didn't just play the songs straight from the records but acoustic if that makes sense. They performed different renditions of the songs, more suited to the acoustic nature and everything just flowed. I have a few complaints about the possibly drunk, obnoxious people in the crowd that kept disrupting the show but what can you do?

Hollywood Ending, Stay Seventeen, Halfway To Hollywood, This Is All Now
A bit excessive with the openers, eh? This tour could have used a bit more communication between bands as a few covers were repeated which is really weird. Overall the openers were okay, nothing special. The real kicker was Hollywood Ending -  I was not super stoked to be seeing them, they were kind of a fling a few years back and I didn't think their music was all that special but you know what, sometimes you just gotta let loose and have fun to some cheesy pop music performed by a bunch of dorks. Their songs are super catchy and fun and I was with my best friends so I enjoyed myself.

The Summer Set
And it goes full circle to a gig with no openers. This was another acoustic show and the band played their most recent album front to back and came back for an encore of older songs and a Drake cover. I thought that was very unique and The Summer Set has to be one of my favourite bands. I can't clearly remember a time when their music wasn't part of my life. All the acoustic alterations to the songs was fitting and lovely on the ears. Legendary is up there with the favourite albums so it's so nice I got to hear every single song live. Another really fun night with my friends and amusing chatter between songs.

I meant to put this up earlier in the day but clearly I never got around to it - I hope these little snippets were entertaining and/or educational in some way!
