You Me At Six: A Concert Review

Hello, I've just gone to see You Me At Six (well, last night) and now I'm going to tell you about it!

I just downed a cup of tea, finished a bit of homework and put on a chill playlist so I'm ready to collect my thoughts, let's start with the openers.

  • Dinosaur Pileup
Unfortunately, we missed the beginning of their set due to being at the end of the line (school, traffic, Subway cravings- the usual). They sounded really good and they did their own merch so we got to chat a bit to the (extremely cute, English, glasses-wearing) drummer as my friend bought a shirt. They also gave out free pins, I'll be adding mine to the collection on my denim jacket. Oh yeah, the music. They sounded a lot like the other bands playing (duh??), very pop-punk (I'm terrible with genres). I'll be checking out their music and if I really like it, you'll see it on an upcoming TWIM, I'm sure.
  • Conditions
This band was a little more hard (someone give me some describing words, I'm floundering here). They're from Richmond, VA (I've been there!!!!) and were cool. I head-banged. Sorry I don't have much to say, it's hard when I couldn't make out many words to their songs due to screaming and the general volume inside the venue.
  • Tonight Alive
A band from down under! The lead singer looked pretty badass with pastel green hair, and she was energetic as. She used her whole body to act out songs (again, I couldn't completely understand the lyrics but I enjoyed it, and I inferred by watching her motions). Their set was full-throttle, they were all lost in the music and the singer gave a little speech about how once you enter a venue, it doesn't matter who you are, everyone's friends. That was cool. I've heard of them before but couldn't figure out if I'd actually heard any of their songs, definitely checking out their music after this.
  • You Me At Six!!!
Weeeeee! I loved it. They sounded amazing live and watching the entire crowd go crazy for them was the best. They played all the good stuff (except No One Does It Better which is my personal favourite, sigh) and it was all roses. The entire audience was screaming along and the atmosphere was full of energy. I couldn't stop smiling. I wasn't directly in the pit but a lot of people did a circle mosh and to be frank, I've never seen so many crowd surfers. I don't really understand the fun in punching and shoving people to music but to each their own, the people involved looked like they were having a fabulous time. They did a speech about leaving your problems at the door and just having a good time which is my philosophy and yeah. Good stuff. English accents for days. During the last song - Underdog - the lead singer jumped into the crowd and one guitar player went up to the balcony which got everyone stoked, a dope way to end it.
This was probably the worst review in the history of ever but my point is that I really enjoyed myself and would love to see these bands again. Added note: The Opera House is such a pretty venue with all the old-style crown moulding and iron and stone floors.
