The Radio

There's a huge variety of music being played on the radio and no matter what you like, I bet there's a station you'll love. But I can't tell you which ones you love because I don't know you. I can only give you my opinions so here they are:

Local

  • 88.1 Indie FM (Toronto)
I can't actually get this station very well in the car or on my stereo so I listen online but it is a new station in Toronto playing indie music with little commercials and it introduced me to a lot of stuff I hadn't heard before. I like it in the background when I do homework or browse Tumblr because a lot of the music is pretty chill but occasionally a song will have a lyric or beat that stands out so I'll make note of the artist/song name. Wherever you live there's a good chance you can find an indie station!
  • BBC Radio 1 (London)
Again, I have to listen to this online but I spend a lot of time on the computer and very little time in cars so it's no big deal. Since it's based in the UK I can hear what's up and coming over there that may not have made it to North America and the style of radio is really cool. They have a lot more variety than a lot of the popular radio stations near where I am so you're not listening to the same song twice an hour. Another note, the hosts I've had the chance to listen to are very entertaining and funny (including Dan & Phil, Nick Grimshaw etc). They have a YouTube channel where they post interviews and the Radio 1 Live Lounge (artists doing covers of popular songs, high quality audio) which is a gold mine.
That's honestly the only radio stations I would recommend, I'm not a huge radio person lately. I know radio is different wherever you go. When I was in the U.S. I head a lot of things that I knew but never thought were popular and I was only a few hours over the border. Canadian radio has to play a lot of homegrown music and you may be under the impression that because a certain song is played umpteen times in a day here, it is popular everywhere but that's usually not the case. This is why listening to local radio is good - you hear local stuff - but also, if you venture out of your area you'll hear what's local to that place. I don't know, it's just a weird and cool thing.
