This Week In Music: 02/20/14

I'm currently waiting for my brother in law to bring me over some paper to print a project so I figured I'd crack this out now?

  • Nina Nesbitt - Peroxide
I've been anticipating this one for a while now and I'm so glad I can finally listen to it. Very acoustic/pop with some great lyrics.
Must hear: Selfies, He's The One I'm Bringing Back, 18 Candles
  • Ingrid Michaelson - Girls Chase Boys
This is off Lights Out and I found it while scrolling through Tumblr (something I possibly dabble on occasionally) and it's cute. She reminds me a lot of Sara Bareilles.
  • We Are The In Crowd - Weird Kids
For some reason I thought this came out in March? Well it's out now so. I don't think I like it as much as their older stuff - and my paper just arrived so I lost my track of thought.
Must hear: Come Back Home, Manners
  • Green Or Blue - A Shot Below The Moon
If you're Canadian, or just into this genre I'd say this band sounds heaps like City & Colour/Dallas Green. I like it, kinda gritty and angsty but not too harsh?
  • MKTO - MKTO
I found this band through an 8tracks playlist and now I'm hooked. They give me major summer vibes and I can imagine their songs getting a lot of radio play (if they don't already, I haven't listened to Top 40 in ages).
Must hear: Classic, American Dream, God Only Knows
  • Phantogram - Nothing But Trouble
iTunes single of the week. The beginning is very new-age, interesting noises and then this female voice comes in and contrasts it all. She sounds a bit Marina & The Diamonds or Lana Del Ray but the instrumentals are so different.
  • Bleachers - I Wanna Get Better
This got a lot of recognition in the media world, from Hayley Williams (Paramore) to Taylor Swift. It's on SoundCloud (as well as iTunes, of course) and a tour was just announced so I'd get on that if you want, I really like the song. Very uplifting, much like Fun. but not quite the same. Oh, the guy behind Bleachers is a member of Fun. which I should have mentioned. Yeah.
  • Nick Santino & The Northern Wind - Long Way Home (feat. John O'Callaghan)
I love this one the most, very melodic and catchy with that whole summer vibe thing again, but in a completely different way than MKTO. More of a chilled out summer song than a radio smash.
Some other bits:
The Brits happened and I was pretty happy with the results. One Direction, Bastille, and Arctic Monkeys went away with awards so what more could I ask?
5 Seconds Of Summer announced (small) North American tour for April
Not on the list but I've been digging Scouting For Girls' Greatest Hits album. Lol.
Hope your week was lovely and I'll see you with another list next Wednesday!!
