- Wild Club - Thunder Clatter
This is the free single of the week and it blends nicely with the rest of the songs this week. Very deep vocals and choppy electronic beats. Sounds a bit like a band I know and as usual, I can't figure out which. - Young The Giant - Mind Over Matter
I'm not going to lie, I've only really heard Cough Syrup before now, but with all the hype I had to listen to this. I knew I'd like it so why not?
Must hear: Mind Over Matter, Daydreamer, Waves - Half Moon Run - Dark Eyes
This isn't too recent an album but after hearing a few tracks I went ahead and got the whole thing. I can imagine a lot of it being used for background music for eerie TV shows or movies. The vocals sound a bit like that of Vampire Weekend and I think the album title really fits the mood of the album.
Must hear: Full Circle, Fire Escape, Judgement - James Vincent McMorrow - Post Tropical
I think it was last week that his song was the free one, and I really liked it so I wanted to hear more. Of course Glacial doesn't really fit with the tropical title/artwork. There's a very present theme of the outdoors with songs titles like Outside, Digging (an obvious one), Look Out, and The Lakes and you know I love that kind of stuff. Definitely adding this one to my "calm" playlist. - Chvrches - The Bones Of What You Believe
This was another one I found through the free singles! I'm beginning to love this band and the other day I heard their song The Mother We Share played on radio as one of those bump it or dump it type segments. I like the contrast of somewhat peppy music teamed with somewhat serious, sad lyrics. Plus the female vocals are sweet.
Must hear: Gun, Recover, Night Sky - Dresses - Sun Shy
I came across this band by accident and I'm so glad I did. It's a female/male vocal duo and the entire album is so bright, it makes me excited for frolicking around in the fields when spring comes. Not that I ever really do that, but I can pretend. Again, this one disguises serious topics with pretty melodies and choice of instruments. The music video for Sun Shy and the album in it's entirety are on YouTube so like, go.
Must hear: Sun Shy, Friends Are Dead, Painting Roses - Paradise Fears - When You Come Home
I'm pretty sure this is an acoustic track, and the lyric video was just posted on their YouTube. Like all of their songs, I got really emotional. I don't know how they do that to me but I wouldn't have it any other way. Anywho, I love this song. - A Great Big World - Is There Anybody Out There?
I saved the best for last (actually I think is subconsciously put this list in order of favourites), and what a surprise this one is. Like everyone, I'd heard Say Something - I didn't even grow attached to it. I didn't have that song on my iTunes until I got the whole album - and I'd heard This Is The New Year. I liked it, but something pulled me into listening to the rest of the album and boy oh boy, I'm hooked. It's such a wide variety of songs and I like every one. They remind me a lot of Fun. in the best way and I'm just so stoked about this band. I think they're gonna be big. I might do a whole album review (even though I'm a bit behind) so I won't ramble now.
Must hear: Everyone Is Gay, Already Home, Rockstar

This Week In Music: 23/01/14
I'm so excited about this week's list that I'm writing it before even eating breakfast. It's a good'un.
