Let's talk double standards?
As you may (or may not, but you probably do) know, I kinda like music and music culture. This means I like keeping up with bands and going to concerts and buying albums when they are first released. That's my thing. That's what I get excited about.
A lot of times people don't seem to understand why I care so much about music, why I spend so much money on music. I can't explain it, it's just how I am.
The thing is, even if you don't feel the same way about music, there's probably something in your life that you're passionate about. Whether it be theatrics, gaming, fashion, or most popularly - sports.
I see sports and music as being very similar - everyone knows something about sports, but some people just know more and care more.
I've been told off for being a "crazy fangirl" before, because I buy merchandise and concert tickets to see a certain band multiple times and God forbid I follow the band members on Twitter. For me, seeing a band multiple times is exactly the same as seeing the same team multiple times. We can both argue that every time you see them it's a different experience whether it be a new setlist or a different opponent. Also, there may be a certain band that is my favourite, but I go see other bands that I like too as you would see your favourite baseball team as well as your favourite football team, basketball team, etc. You can see multiple teams because they are DIFFERENT THINGS. The way people say, "oh you're going to another concert wow" makes me wanna reply "you're watching another game? didn't you just watch one?" YEAH BUT IT'S NOT THE SAME GAME, IS IT.
I'm getting a little more worked up than I planned to on this Monday morning.
The gist of this post is that I've seen people dedicate all their money and all their time to a sports team and that's deemed acceptable but if you do that for a band you're crazy. People complain about mobs of screaming girls outside of a concert venue, but I've seen a group of grown men wreak havoc on an entire city because their team lost. Why are sports a "normal" obsession?
