This Week In Music: 04/09/13

1st week of September
OK this will be a continuous thing, I can't promise to have a new list every single week but here's some new music I've been digging

  • Rizzle Kicks' Roaring 20s album: it's good mood music, full of clever lyrics and throwback sounds inspired by the 20s. If you're afraid of rap, don't be. This stuff is cool.
Must hear: Skip To The Good Bit, I Love You More Than You Think
Compare to: Twenty One Pilots, Macklemore, Classified
  • John Mayer's Paradise Valley: This isn't really an unknown album but it's new and some people are writing it off because of the more "country" vibe in the songs but I like a bit of country. It's not really that country though, people just like to whine. Don't they understand that artists need to grow, to switch it up, to change a little sometimes?
Must hear: Paper Doll (obviously, and I love the hints at Taylor Swift), You're No One 'Til Someone Lets You Down
  • Chad Sugg's Lost Boy: He comes from YouTube and I had the pleasure of discovering him when he opened for Alex Goot. Very sweet songs with great lyrics and a chill vibe. I'd also check out his YouTube channel as he does a lot of covers if you like that stuff.
Must hear: Say Anything, Coffee Shop [Demo]
Compare to: Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, The Scene Aesthetic
  • Paradise Fears' Who You Are: This is just a single but Paradise Fears is one of my favourite bands, heard this live on their most recent tour and loved it, they've just released the studio version on iTunes. Inspirational, storytelling music.
Compare to: Parachute, Action Item, they've said their song Lullaby sounds like a Jesse McCartney song...
  • Hedley's new single, Anything: I have to include a bit of Canadian pride in here, I love everything this band puts out. Inspirational, pop/rock music and I love the kids saying, "fuck that." I don't know why. A song about going against the flow. They have a new album coming out in November so let this hold you over until then.
Compare to: Yellowcard, Simple Plan (I don't know what to say here)
I hope this introduced you to something new! Also, when I say "inspirational" I mean it in a good way, it motivates you. None of that sissy crap.
